Tesla will eventually advertise, according to Elon Musk. Is this its first commercial? It just posted a video on Twitter.
On its Tesla Asia account, the electric manufacturer released a 2-minute video titled "Drive to believe." The film appeared to be a sneak glimpse at the company's next ad campaign, which may rely on driver testimonials.
If so, it's doing it in a low-key manner: the Tesla Asia account has only 172,000 followers, compared to the main account's 21 million. It's unclear whether this is the brand's debut advertisement, but many people on Twitter have lauded it as such.
In the past, the brand relied primarily on word-of-mouth, in addition to Musk's social media advertising. Musk described Tesla's Twitter promos last week as "preaching to the choir." Tesla did not react to an inquiry about the video.
A Model 3 owner and mother of two children noted in the film that she was initially intrigued to the vehicle because of its technology, but has grown to enjoy it even more because of its safety features. The movie shows various Tesla technologies, including Autopilot, the infotainment system, and the Tesla app — as well as the "ease" of driving an electric car on a daily basis.
Later that day, Musk told CNBC's David Faber that he'd only just made the choice at the event. He stated that Tesla does not yet have a defined advertising strategy. Nonetheless, the CEO told CNBC that he believes commercials should be "informative and entertaining" without making users regret the time they spent watching them.
Musk told CNBC that he expects to utilise advertisements to battle misunderstandings about the brand's pricing and to highlight its safety features.
Musk has already stated that he despises advertising. He has stated that Tesla prefers to invest in research and development rather than promotional content.
